On Feb. 26 the Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) triumphed at the 17th annual National Collegiate Emergency Medical Services Foundation skills competition in Baltimore, Md. CUSERT was deemed the best first response team in a competition that attracted participants from across North America.

The weekend before, the students dominated the competition at the National Conference of Campus Emergency Responders Feb. 21 to retain their title as the best campus first aid team in Canada.

The team bested fellow provincial competitors Trent University and a team from the University of Western Ontario, the location of the competition, in a final mock disaster where participants had to respond quickly and efficiently to a surprise emergency situation.
