The Carleton University Students’ Association election is fast approaching, with the nomination period for the next CUSA president and faculty councillors wrapping up earlier this week.
The campaign period for CUSA president and faculty councillor nominees starts Monday and ends Feb. 5.
Voting for CUSA president and faculty councillor nominees begins Feb. 3 and finishes Feb. 5 at 5 p.m.
The vice-president positions, which are vice-president (student issues), vice-president (student life) and vice-president (internal affairs) will be voted on internally by the incoming and outgoing council.
The nomination period for the vice-president positions starts on Feb. 9 and ends on Feb. 23.
The vice-presidential nominees’ campaign period starts on March 2 and ends on March 8, when council will vote on the vice-presidents.
Changes in election campaign guidelines
CUSA has made changes in election procedures this year to its advisory committee, nominations, campaign teams and eligibility.
The elections advisory committee is an impartial body appointed by CUSA’s Board of Directors to help the Chief Returning Officer determine violations of the election procedure and deliver timely results.
The elected positions also require a fewer minimum number of nominations.
Presidential nominees need a minimum of 100 nominations and a maximum of 200, which was lowered from last year’s minimum of 124 nominations and a maximum of 248 nominations.
Faculty councillor nominees need a minimum of 20 students from their faculty and a maximum of 40 students from their faculty.
Vice-presidential nominees will need a minimum of 30 nominations and a maximum of 60.
Candidates are also required to maintain extensive lists of all campaign volunteers and are responsible for volunteers’ campaign activities up to the voting period.
Councillors who were elected in the 2026 general election are not allowed to run for a vice-president position in the upcoming 2026 vice president elections.
The final election results will be announced at a date that is yet to be determined, according to the student union.
