The Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) held both a meeting and an emergency meeting Jan. 8 to hire electoral officers and to set election dates.

In the general meeting, Andrea Dark was confirmed as chief electoral officer (CEO) and Devin Harm and Yaman Marwah were confirmed as deputy electoral officers (DEO).

The CEO is the senior administrative officer of the elections. DEOs assist the CEO and can perform the CEO’s duties in their absence.

The CEO and DEOs are paid $4,000 each for the election period, according to CUSA vice-president (finance) Folarin Odunayo.

In the emergency meeting, the 2014 writ of election was debated and approved.

The nomination period will begin Jan. 15 at 10 a.m. and end Jan. 17 at 4 p.m.

The general elections will be held Jan. 29-30.

Voting will be allowed online for the first time this year, as well as at polling stations.

Voting for the election will be tallied Jan. 31, according to Dark.

The campaign period will begin Jan 22. and end Jan. 28.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences (FASS) councillor Erica Butler proposed a motion to amend the writ to delay the election period by three business days due to a conflict with Pride Week.

“Pride Week should have been a scheduling priority for this organization,” she said.

Council failed the amendment.
