The Carleton women’s soccer team advances to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East semifinals after defeating the Nipissing Lakers 2-1 in North Bay.
The Lakers came out strong in the first half, with striker Kim Tait scoring the first half’s lone goal, putting it past Ravens goalkeeper Rachel Bedek.
The second half saw a stronger Ravens team with veteran midfielder Amanda Ngwafusi tying the match and striker Shayla LaVecchia scoring the winning goal three minutes later.
“The girls showed fantastic character [and] belief in themselves. They stepped up and took the game,” said head coach Alex McNutt. “The team is very confident going into next round of the OUA East post-season tournament.”
The women’s team will play the Queen’s University Golden Gaels Oct. 31, in the OUA East semifinals.
