Carleton law student Abdulhamid Wehbe, 22, was found not guilty of manslaughter on March 26 after Ontario Court Justice Hugh Fraser found there was not enough evidence against him, according to the Ottawa Citizen.

Yazdan Ghiasi, 16, was shot and killed in his car on Dec. 6, 2010 after a drug deal for $15,000 worth of marijuana. Wehbe admitted to driving his cousin, alleged shooter Mohamed Wehbe, to Ghiasi’s house on Booth Street to buy the drugs.

Abdulhamid Wehbe said he had no knowledge of a plot to steal the drugs, and was in a nearby house when Ghiasi was shot.

The Crown sought to prove that Wehbe knew in advance of the plan to take the drugs without paying for them.

The judge said while he believed parts of Wehbe’s denial about knowledge of the drug deal were “incredible,” there was no concrete evidence about what happened in the car, the Citizen reported.
