Carleton student and budding fashion designer Teevi Mackay Henri designed a parka inspired by her Inuit roots and interest in current fashion trends.

Henri said each element of the parka was carefully thought out, tested, and reworked until she was satisfied with the outcome. The placement of the toggles complements her shape while the soft rosebud-looking lining, peaking out at the collar, adds an element of texture.

What makes this piece so special is the bottom shape of the parka, which is shaped like an amauti, a traditional Inuit baby carrier.

The patterned trim on the cuffs and belt are designed by the Maori natives in New Zealand, which Henri picked up on a visit to the country.

The execution of the inspiration behind a design is what makes fashion wearable art.

Look for Henri's work in years to come; I'm already in line for my parka.
