Stingers end Raven streak in shootout

After a five-game winning streak, the Ravens men’s hockey team took a hard loss to the Concordia Stingers Jan. 20 at the Ice House.

The Ravens had just come off a back-to-back on-the-road victory weekend against McGill University Jan. 16 and Concordia Jan. 17. The Sunday game against Concordia, which saw the Ravens coming from behind and winning 2-1 in a shootout, was to almost repeat itself. But Concordia came from behind and won 3-2 in a shootout.

Nordic ski team snags six medals

The Carleton Nordic ski team raced its way onto the podium, winning a successful six out of 12 medals in North Bay at the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) race hosted by Nipissing University Jan. 16-17.

“I’ve been coaching for 25 years and I haven’t had eight men finish in the top 11,” said head coach John Langston.

The Ravens started strong with team veterans Alana Thomas and Collin Abbott both winning silver medals in their races on Saturday, Jan. 16.

Guarding the games

With less than three weeks left until the Olympic torch reaches Vancouver, Carleton students are growing anxious not only to attend the winter event but to help run it as well.

En garde at RMC

Despite a few disappointments, the Raven fencing team was successful overall at this weekend's Ontario University Athletics Eastern Qualifier, hosted by Royal Military College.

Over two-thirds of our individual fencers and all six of our teams qualified for OUA championships, which are being hosted by Carleton next month.

This weekend was very important since every qualification will count Feb. 13 and 14, as both our men’s and women’s teams make a push for the banner on our home soil.

Exercise etiquette

As the peak season of the Carleton weight room hits full swing, it’s time to give those newbies and New Year’s resolutioners a refresher on the rules and etiquette of working out. This handy list of dos and don’ts will help make your weight room experience a fun and profiting one.

DO warm up and cool down properly. We’ve all been guilty of skipping our warm up before working out but warming up and cooling down properly is actually crucial for your muscles.
