Ravens robbed of OUA East title
The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team were trampled by the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees for the second year in a row in an intense 59-54 loss in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East finals Saturday Feb. 27.
The Carleton hoopsters came out fired up and looking for revenge over last year’s OUA East Semi-finals in which the Gee-Gees defeated them 55-49 putting an end to their season. However, their spirit alone couldn’t stop the Gee-Gees from coming out stronger in the first quarter and capturing an early lead of 14-8.
CU curlers sweeping through Switzerland
When Canada takes the stage at the Curling World Juniors in Switzerland March 6-14, Carleton will be well represented.
Third-year industrial design student Emma Miskew and first-year political science student Lynn Kreviazuk form half of team “Homan” – the Ottawa-based team that went 13-0 this past January to win the under-20 women’s national title.
They will now compete against teams representing nine other countries from across the world including China, the United States and three-time defending world champions, Scotland.
Ballers basket one-point overtime win
Whether it’s the high-capacity seating at Scotiabank Place or just the Ravens’ Nest on a chilly, Feb. 20 evening, the intensity is always the same for a Carleton versus University of Ottawa basketball game.
Throughout the game, both sides had their fair share of supporters, with the “Let’s go Ravens” and “Let’s go Gee Gees” cheers drowning each other out.
Despite questionable refereeing and blowing an 18-point lead in the second half, the Ravens fought back for a thrilling 87-86 overtime win.
Skating by
The Carleton men’s varsity hockey team is competing in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East semi-final match-up with the dreaded McGill University Redmen Feb. 24, 26 and 28 if necessary.
“It’s going to be real tough and they play really well,” said Raven head coach Fred Parker, about the three-game series that begins Feb. 24 at McGill’s McConnell Arena. “It’s going to be a hard fought series.”
Women hoopsters make history
Carleton’s women’s basketball team is heading to the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East Finals for the first time in the program’s history.
The Ravens secured a spot in the final with their 68-46 victory against the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Feb. 21. Guard Alyson Bush led all Ravens with 17 points, despite finding herself in foul trouble early on.
