Kewin keeps going
Despite leading the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team with seven goals in 12 games this season, and finishing in the top 10 among Ontario University Athletics (OUA) goal scorers, midfielder Joey Kewin said he isn’t completely satisfied.
“I could have done better, but I’m still happy with seven,” Kewin said.
Now in his second year, Kewin, 19, said part of his success this season can simply be attributed to experience.
Stumbling into the playoffs
The Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team closed out their regular season Oct. 23, as they travelled to Toronto to take on the Ryerson Rams in a preview of what could end up being an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) East semi-final matchup.
After conceding only two goals throughout the entire season, the Ravens surrendered the same amount in less than 10 minutes at Lamport Stadium, and could not recover, ultimately coming out on the wrong side of a 3-0 score line.
Recruiting key for Ravens
Many Carleton Ravens basketball fans got their first look at rookies Darcy Hawkins, Genavieve Melatti and Krista Van Slingerland last weekend, when the Ravens women’s basketball team captured their second consecutive Metro Glebe Tournament title.
For Ravens head coach Taffe Charles, this represents years of investment. Recruitment is not easy. Varsity coaches like Charles travel all over Canada to watch potential players play at the club and high school levels.
Metro Glebe champs once again
The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team successfully defended their Metro Glebe Tournament title last weekend at the Ravens’ Nest, winning two of three games to secure the championship.
The tournament included three visiting universities: the Bishop’s Gaiters, Memorial Sea-Hawks and Concordia Stingers.
Undefeated in Laval
They may have claimed another pre-season tournament win last weekend, but the Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team still has a lot of work to do, head coach Dave Smart warned.
The Ravens swept the University of Laval’s Rouge et Or tournament with wins against the St. Mary’s Huskies, the University of New Brunswick Varsity Reds and the tournament host, Laval. Still, Smart said he wasn’t thrilled by his team’s performance.
