Golfer recieves Craig Revell award
The Carleton University golf team is in full swing this season as it starts to look towards the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) championship, in which team member Karen Millage wants to help lead the Ravens to a potential top three finish.
Millage is the recent recipient of a prestigious Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) scholarship, the Craig Revell award. This scholarship is given to a university athlete who shows success not only in golf but also in their academic pursuits.
Ravens women win two
The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team won their second consecutive game Oct. 3, dominating the College Montmorency Les Nomades by a score of 74–44 at the Ravens’ Nest.
A family affair in the Nest
Gavin and Jessica Resch received some great advice from their mom when they were younger.
“She used to tell us, you’d never make a team if you couldn’t do a left handed lay-up,” Gavin recalled. “She was always there to help us practice.”
Ravens basketball wins big
The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team recorded their first win of the season Oct. 2, defeating the St. Lawrence Vikings 79-41 at the Ravens’ Nest.
Although the victory snaps their three-game losing streak to National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA) opponents, the Ravens still have a long way to go, according to veteran guard Mike Kenny.
“Our last couple games, we took a couple steps backwards so I think this game was decent — we might have taken at least one step forward,” Kenny said.
Wasslen gets eighth consectutive shutout
Starting the season with eight consecutive shutouts is an impressive feat in itself for Carleton Ravens men’s soccer goalkeeper Karl Wasslen.
Even more impressive, Wasslen’s strong start to the season comes after spending a year away from the game due to injury. If that isn’t enough, those who know Wasslen solely through his soccer success find it hard to digest the fact that the 26-year-old shot-stopper has a wife and two kids, he said.
