Ravens add globetrotter in goal

Konnichiwa, dobry den and hello.

Three languages and three completely different ways of saying hello, all known by one Carleton Ravens women’s hockey player. But to her, none of these matter because hockey is her first language.

Born in Tokyo, Japan, Eri Kiribuchi, 21, has played hockey in her home country, the Czech Republic, and the United States — explaining how she can speak each of these countries’ native tongues. But now, Kiribuchi is back in Canada as she takes her place between the pipes for the Ravens.

Men ballers back on track

The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team defeated the Bishop’s University Gaiters at home in exhibition play Oct. 7, with a convincing 86-25 victory at the Ravens’ Nest.

A strong defensive effort by fourth-year forward Aaron Chapman with eight rebounds and a game-high 16 points from fifth-year guard Elliot Thompson helped the Ravens secure their second win of the pre-season.

Ravens split weekend series

The Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team opened their 2010-2011 season last weekend, splitting back-to-back games with the RMC Paladins and Ryerson University Rams respectively.

The team ran into two very hot goaltenders, and while they were able to overcome this obstacle Oct. 8, they were not so lucky the following day.

Things got off to a flying start just five minutes into the game at RMC, when Ravens assistant captain Ryan Berard tipped in a point shot on the power play to open the team’s account for the season.

Albert happy to be home

Carleton’s men’s hockey team added four former Ontario Hockey League (OHL) players to its roster this year out of a total of eight new recruits.

One of these rookies is first-year economics major Brad Albert, a former assistant captain with the Brampton Battalion.

“I picked Carleton because I knew it was a good school, and it was also close to home,” said Albert, a 21 year-old defenceman originally from Ottawa. “I just really like Ottawa, and I was ready to move back into town.”

Men’s soccer team perfect no more

A weekend of mixed results saw the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team suffer their first loss of the season at the hands of the Trent University Excalibur Oct. 9 at Keith Harris Stadium.

The 1-0 loss came courtesy of a 15th minute goal by Trent striker Eli Adansi, who found some space inside the Ravens penalty area and headed the ball past goalkeeper Karl Wasslen.
