No longer just the Gee-Gees

By the year 2013, the city of Ottawa could have two new football teams. Not only should Carleton University be seeing the return of its varsity football team in 2012, but the city can also look forward to the return of the once-extinct Canadian Football League (CFL) franchise in 2013.

During Grey Cup weekend, CFL Commissioner Mark Cohon announced the Ottawa Sports and Entertainment Group (OSEG) have stepped up to bring a team back to the nation’s capital.

Battered, bruised and still cheering

Every muscle in my body is exhausted. Sweat is collecting on my forehead and my nose is full of dried blood.

It’s Dec. 4 and this is nationals. We huddle together two minutes before they call our name to take the floor. We are one team, one family.

Despite two sprained ankles, a broken arm, a torn anterior cruciate ligament, a sprained finger and 10 stitches, we will all go out for each other because there are no subs in this sport. This isn’t soccer, this isn’t rugby, or even basketball. This is cheerleading.

Ravens bounce back against York

The Carleton Ravens closed out their final home game of 2010 in memorable fashion Nov. 27, as they embarrassed the York University Lions to the tune of 8-0.

After a disappointing 4-2 loss to the Brock Badgers less than 24 hours earlier, the Ravens responded in a big way in front of a packed arena at the Ice House.

Thirteen Ravens skaters recorded at least a point, including leading scorer Brandon MacLean, who led the way with a goal and three assists on the afternoon.

Undefeated Ravens get their revenge

The last time Carleton’s men’s basketball team played Lakehead University, they were handed their first loss of the 2009-2010 regular season.

The Ravens made sure history did not repeat itself Nov. 27, handling the Thunderwolves 75-49 in a physical, tightly-called game that ended with a whopping 46 fouls.

Water polo women defend OUA title

The Carleton Ravens women’s water polo team defended their title and took home the gold medal in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Championships this weekend in Kingston.
