Building off a strong fourth-place finish in the University Challenge Cup earlier this month, Carleton’s women’s ringette team ended as runners-up in the 30th Annual Beaconsfield-Kirkland Ringette Tournament last week.
Ravens football revival: funding deadlines loom
The deadline for a fall 2012 Ravens football revival is coming down to the wire.
Carleton must submit its intent to enter the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) league by May, so April is the absolute deadline to have funding requirements met for the self-sufficient team, said Jennifer Brenning, director of the department of recreation and athletics.
Women’s hockey falls to the Gee-Gees
After a 5-3 victory in their last game against the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees, the Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team fell 2-1 to their closest rivals in a shootout at the Ice House Jan. 23.
“Games against Ottawa are always really close,” said defenceman Melanie McKnight, who scored the lone goal in the shootout for the Ravens. “It would have been nice to get the two points, but one is still better than nothing. Shootouts are tough.”
Carleton nordic ski team shows well in North Bay
Freezing weather was virtually the only thing that beat the Carleton Ravens Nordic ski team in the Nippissing Invitational Jan. 22-23 in North Bay, Ont.
The Ravens recorded a slew of top five finishes in their first outing of the season before officials cancelled the second day of competition due to frigid temperatures between -26C and -33C and a harsh wind chill, according to Envrionment Canada.
“We were able to do our skate race [on Jan. 22], which was good,” said third-year skier Brittany Pearson.
