The Carleton Ravens erased some painful memories of Scotiabank Place Jan. 26, as they defeated their hated cross town-rivals from the University of Ottawa (6-9), in the fifth annual MNBA Capital Hoops Classic.

The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team climbed to the highest rank in the program’s history Jan. 25, settling into fourth place in the Canadian Interuniversity Sport Top 10 rankings.

After two overtime periods and a slew of missed free throws, the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team won their fourth straight MBNA Capital Hoops Classic Jan. 26, holding off the University of Ottawa Gee-Gees 71-63 at Scotiabank Place.

A second Raven is flying to the 2011 World University Games to represent Canada in men’s hockey, Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) announced Jan. 19.

Forward Ryan Berard has been picked to join his men’s varsity teammate Brandon MacLean on team Canada’s roster at the international winter sports tournament, which takes place in Turkey from Jan. 27 to Feb. 6.

The Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team rebounded from last week’s loss to the undefeated McGill Redmen with a resounding 7-2 win over the Concordia Stingers Jan. 21 at the Ice House.

First-year forward Joe Pleckaitis, who finished the game with three points, was delighted with how the Ravens responded to last week’s disappointment.

“It was really important to have this [win],” Pleckaitis said grinning from ear to ear. “We want to catch McGill. That’s our goal.”
