Former Raven brings Smart philosophy to Trinity bench
In the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championship game between Carleton and Trinity Western University, a former Raven was on the Spartan bench, facing off against his old coach.
Spartan assistant coach Matt Boulton was the Carleton Ravens rookie of the year in 1996. Ravens bench boss Dave Smart was the assistant coach for the first couple years that Boulton donned the Raven jersey, and Smart took over in Boulton’s fourth year.
But Boulton had been playing for Smart and his nephew, assistant coach Rob Smart Jr., since he was 15 years old.
Ravens earn wildcard for CIS women’s nationals
Despite losing the Central Regional final March 12, the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team have secured a berth in next weekend’s Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Final 8 championships.
The Ravens were awarded the wildcard berth in the Final 8 March 14 and are now headed to nationals for the first time in the team’s history.
To open the tournament, Carleton will face the same team that defeated them in the CIS Central Regional final, the St. Francis Xavier X-Women.

Ravens one win away from nationals
The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team survived a fourth quarter scare against the University of Winnipeg Wesmen March 11 but held on for a 62-59 win to cling on to their hopes of reaching the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) championships.
Heartbreaking defeat sends Ravens to regionals
After being ahead for the majority of the game, the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team suffered a 46-44 loss to the University of Windsor Lancers in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Final March 5.
Ravens head coach Taffe Charles said he was impressed with his team’s effort against the second-best team in the nation, who captured their third straight OUA title with the win. The St. Denis Centre in Windsor was packed with Lancer fans cheering on the home team.
