Nordic ski team captures national title

The Carleton Ravens men’s Nordic ski team captured their second straight national title March 11-19 at the Canadian College and University Nordic Championships (CCUNC) in Canmore, Alta.

Ravens can’t close at nationals

The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team slumped to back-to-back defeats against St. Francis Xavier and Wilfrid Laurier University, as they saw their season come to an end last weekend in Windsor, Ont.

In the opening quarterfinal game of the Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) national tournament, the Ravens were shot down as the X-Women took the game 50-44.

Despite leading the game going into the fourth frame, the Ravens looked stunned as the East Coast team racked up an impressive 19 points in the final frame to seal the win.

Carleton football prospects coming down to the wire

Like any good football game, an attempt to get a football team in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) by fall of 2012 will come down to the wire for Carleton University.

The group attempting to revive the currently defunct Carleton Ravens football team needs to raise $5 million to cover the team’s first five years of operations. These funds would cover an $800,000 annual operating cost and $200,000 in capital, to be put towards infrastructure improvements such as weight rooms and dressing rooms, per year.

Goaltender Kiribuchi doing her part to help Japan

Eri Kiribuchi is doing her part to help her family back home.

The Japanese-born goaltender for the Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team still has family in the devastated country of Japan.

“My grandparents are in Japan and they are all safe now,” Kiribuchi said. “I also have my uncle’s family there and I talked to them the next day and they were all safe. But all of them are still afraid about the nuclear power plant in Fukushima.”

Good begins post-Carleton career

After a four-year career as captain of the Carleton Ravens, Brad Good is now making an impact with a new team. The shut-down defenceman signed with the Florida Everblades of the East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) March 9.

The Everblades are affiliated with both the Carolina Hurricanes and Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League (NHL). The team also has ties with the Charlotte Checkers and Norfolk Admirals of the American Hockey League (AHL).

For his part, Good said he was excited to get to work in his new surroundings.
