Basketball star Hinz named BLG male athlete of the year
Carleton Ravens men’s basketball star and student-athlete Tyson Hinz is on a roll when it comes to winning sports awards. In the past year, he’s won the Ontario University Athletics male athlete of the year award and has also been named Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) Final Eight tournament MVP and CIS player of the year.
Canada hits the hard-court running
A new professional Canadian basketball league working to grow basketball in Canada is being supported by both current and former Carleton Ravens basketball players, but playing overseas may still be the answer.
The National Basketball League of Canada (NBL), launched in May, is Canada’s first official professional basketball league.
Founders Andre Levingston and Ian McCarthy hope it can develop the sport in Canada.
Carleton Ravens basketball recruits two players
The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team has added another couple of weapons to their already extensive arsenal.
Kewin to join Ottawa Fury
One of the Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team’s top goal scorers, Joey Kewin, signed with the Ottawa Fury for the 2011 summer season, according to an April 28 press release.
“[Kewin] is a dedicated player who is always wanting to learn and improve his abilities,” said Fury head coach Steve Payne via email. “I expect [him] to be a valuable member of the Fury squad and I know he will work diligently to try and get as many playing time minutes as possible.”
