Women’s rugby team to be nearly self-funded
When they hit the field in 2012, the new Carleton Ravens varsity women’s rugby team will be 90 per cent self-funded via fundraisers, according to Bob Rumscheidt, Carleton’s manager of interuniversity sport programs.
Hockey team has strong weekend at home
The loss to the University of Ottawa Gee Gees Oct. 29 turned out to be just a bump in the road for the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team, as they recorded two more victories at home Nov. 4-5.
Search for football coach begins
After hiring former Ravens football star Thomas Timlin as manager of football operations Sept. 14, the Carleton Ravens football team is now looking to hire a head coach to lead the Ravens for their inaugural season in 2013.
Carleton and Old Crows Football Inc. have decided to hire an exterior search firm from Toronto to help with the process. The Bedford Group, based in Toronto, will handle all the applications and act as consultants during the hiring process.
Women’s rugby team gains varsity status
After months of speculation, the Carleton Ravens women’s rugby team has officially been granted varsity status for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
The announcement pushes the total number of varsity teams at Carleton to 10, with football set to bring that number to 11 the following year.
Jennifer Brenning, Carleton’s director of recreation and athletics, credited the influence of the incoming football team as a catalyst for this promotion.
Ravens advance to OUA Final Four
The Carleton Ravens men’s soccer team secured a spot in the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) Final Four after a commanding 4-1 victory over the visiting Laurentian Voyageurs Oct. 30 at Keith Harris Stadium.
The teams traded chances early on before settling into what would be a very entertaining match.
But the Ravens dominated the game from the start, creating numerous scoring chances while playing a strong defensive game.
