Women’s hockey team picks up two wins
The Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team ended the first half of their season on a winning note with a 3-0 win over the Concordia Stingers Nov. 26 at the Ice House.
“We were really happy with the team effort,” said Ravens head coach Shelley Coolidge. “It started in net with Tamber Tisdale, who had a very strong game for us.”
The sophomore goaltender stopped all 34 shots she faced, earning her first shutout in Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) hockey.
CU Club figure skaters take on varsity competition
The Carleton Ravens figure skating club competed against varsity teams at the Queen’s Invitational Nov. 26 in Kingston, Ont.
Basketball team improves to 4-2
The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team returned to top form Nov. 25-26 as they edged past the University of Guelph Gryphons before thumping the Lakehead Thunderwolves the following night.
Despite some poor defence and a lack of drive, the Ravens came out with a 81-71 win over the Gryphons Nov. 25 in Guelph, Ont.
“We did score a lot of points but we weren’t focused on defence and we gave up way too many points,” said Ravens head coach Taffe Charles.
Special teams cost Ravens the win
Heartbreak was the theme as the Carleton Ravens men’s hockey team blew a three-goal lead en route to a 4-3 overtime loss at the hands of the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Nov. 25.
The loss was the Ravens’ last away game of the calendar year, leaving them with a 3-3-1 road record in 2011.
“I think we can do better,” said forward Joe Pleckaitis. “I think we can still improve in many spots of our game, and I think we’re still top contenders in this league.”
Water polo team captures OUA title
The Carleton Ravens men’s water polo team defeated both the McMaster Marauders and University of Toronto Varsity Blues Nov. 20 en route to the team’s first Ontario University Athletics (OUA) title since 2008.
Coincidentally, it was the Varsity Blues who knocked off the Ravens back in 2008.
