Women’s basketball winning streak ends

 

The Carleton Ravens women’s basketball team were unable to extend their win streak to four games, as they fell 73-67 to the Wilfrid Laurier Golden Hawks Dec. 3 at the Ravens’ Nest.

The loss drops the Ravens, ranked fourth in the country, to a 5-3 record and ends the Hawks’ two-game skid.

Rookie forward Shelby Kurt gave the Ravens trouble all night long, scoring a game-high 22 points, while collecting six rebounds.

Cheer team finishes last at nationals

Carleton’s cheerleading team finished last in the Power Cheerleading Athletics (PCA) national competition in Toronto Dec. 3.

The team finished behind the University of Ottawa, McMaster University, the University of Saskatchewan and the University of Regina.

The team performed two runs in the competition in the small co-ed category, meaning the team has fewer than five males. 

BOG approves renovations to Keith Harris Stadium

 

Renovation planning is well underway for the Carleton Ravens football team.

At a Nov. 29 meeting, Carleton’s Board of Governors approved the expansion of the fitness centre in the upper level of Alumni Hall, as well as the construction of change rooms in the lower level, according to Carleton’s vice-president (finance and administration) Duncan Watt.

Keith Harris Stadium will also see renovations to its deteriorating stands and press box.

Varsity Blues defeat Ravens in final

After winning four of the last five Ontario University Athletics (OUA) titles, the Carleton Ravens women’s water polo team was de-throned by the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Nov. 27 at Carleton.

Despite defeating the Varsity Blues 7-3 Nov. 26, the Ravens fell 9-4 the following day in the championship final.

“It’s obviously disappointing to lose a game . . . we finished with a silver medal but the Ravens were confident that we could defeat Toronto twice in one weekend,” Ravens head coach Steve Baird said.

Ravens avenge loss to Lakehead

The Carleton Ravens men’s basketball team exorcised their Ontario University Athletics (OUA) demons Nov. 26, beating the Lakehead Timberwolves in a tight, 88-85 game.
