Online = public
When it comes to online privacy, isn’t it about time we started acknowledging that phrase is an oxymoron? The Internet is called the World Wide Web for a reason: it links people across the globe together. It’s foolish to assume that anything you want to stay private can remain so once posted online. Once you send a byte of information out into cyberspace, you might as well have chalked it out on the sidewalk in front of the Rideau Centre, or screamed it from the Peace Tower.
Don’t hate on 28
What do full-time students aged 19, 23 and 28 all have in common? They all have 12-35 hours of class per week plus readings and assignments to complete, which can consume an extra fi ve to 25 hours outside class time, leaving little time for employment. So why has OC Transpo decided that full-time students aged 28 and older are no longer eligible for a student bus pass?
Overheard @ Carleton
Americans on bus: So, who is your leader? What is his name?
Guy: Mike Harris
Girl: No, our prime minister is Stephen Harper.
Guy: Yeah, Edward Igny something is his name.
Girl 1: They will notificate you.
Girl 2: Huh?
Girl 1: You know, tell you where you are. . . Wait. Is notificate a word?
O-town will benefit from O-Train extension
Dear Charlatan readers,
I’d like to call on your support to convince members of the municipal council to extend the O-Train from Greenboro to the Ottawa Macdonald-Cartier International Airport, as it is obvious for riders who take the bus during the peak periods that the transit system is reaching its capacity. Extending the O-Train, a great yet untapped component of our transit system, to the airport, would not only provide a much-needed break for the Transitway but would also benefi t other elements in our city and our airport.
