Carleton undergrad registration rises

Carleton saw a 7 per cent rise in registrations for the upcoming 2009-10 academic year due to an “aggressive recruiting” campaign that involves a more personalized approach, said the Carleton administration.

“Students and their parents appreciate the fact that Carleton takes a personal interest in them,” said Beth Gorham, manager of public affairs at Carleton in an e-mail interview.

Carleton regains contol of Galleria

Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) accused Carleton’s administration of taking “another step back in providing space for students” in a press release issued Aug. 24, following a university decision to resume control of booking space in the central galleria atrium of the Unicentre.

“Just last year, the administration set up a Starbucks in the middle of that space, and now they are removing even more student-controlled space for clubs and societies,” said Erik Halliwell, CUSA president.

CUSA changes petition recall bylaws

Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) passed a motion to clarify the process by which council members may be recalled by petition, at the council meeting on Aug. 20.

The motion amends Section 2.5 of Bylaw 1 of the CUSA bylaws.

“I hope this clarifies the process and brings us into line with other student unions,” said Erik Halliwell, CUSA president and mover of the motion.
