Carleton students instil change in their own backyards
The youth of our generation are often stereotyped as lazy and lacking compassion.
But don’t tell this to the more than 230 Carleton students who stepped up Sept. 26 to lend 23 Ottawa-based organizations a helping hand through the Carleton Serves program.
The tasks involved anything from sorting perishable goods to collecting garbage off the streets – all with the goal of elping the local community.
Since its creation three years ago, the program has more than doubled in size.
Public affairs seat filled
Second-year political science major Karim Khamisa was elected to the vacant public affairs Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) council seat at the Sept. 29 council meeting.
The seat, previously held by Austin Miller, was filled by Khamisa through a vote by council members. Khamisa said he wanted to learn more about CUSA and “become more involved and educated in its services.”
First ENS test
At 10 a.m. on Sept. 25, more than 15,000 students and faculty received simultaneous text messages as part of the first test of the emergency notification system (ENS).
