UOIT students oppose ‘double policing’

Committees at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology and Durham College are reviewing the institutions’ codes of conduct and considering extending these codes to student behaviour off-campus. If the code of conduct were to apply to off-campus behaviour, issues such as vandalism, littering and noisy parties could be dealt with by the university with punishments such as community service and loss of university privileges.

However, many students at these schools do not agree with the idea of double-policing.

University of Regina offers job guarantee

If a university program guaranteed you meaningful employment within six months of graduation, would you sign up?

This is a question University of Regina students are now faced with. The Saskatchewan university will be the first in Canada to offer this type of incentive to its students by implementing the UR Guarantee in fall 2010.

The university said it has confidence in the guarantee because their graduates had a 97 per cent employment success rate in the past year and, with the addition of this program, they hope to push this up to 100 per cent.

Bringing art to B.C. commuters

On Sept. 30, two unlikely networks — the BC Rapid Transit Company and the Emily Carr University of Art and Design — collaborated in welcoming an ongoing project that would bring forth talented new artists beyond the walls of the art galleries. Six graduates from the university were chosen to display their pieces in the Burrard and Waterfront SkyTrain stations in downtown Vancouver for a minimum of one year.
