Mistake or Reality: University of Waterloo gets a D+ on being “Green”
On Oct. 7, the University of Waterloo received a D+ on the College Sustainability Report Card of 2010, a survey sent to the top 332 universities and colleges in North America. This report card rates how eco-friendly and “green” campuses are. The U of W’s D+ is the lowest grade in Ontario – problem is, the university said it never completed the full survey.
Michelle Oliver is a first-year student in the recreation and leisure program at U of W who said one of the reasons she was drawn to the university was how “green” it was.
No note? No sweat
New lax policies concerning health-related absences at the University of Saskatchewan may give students carte blanche to miss mandatory classes, professors say.
The Saskatoon-based university is asking faculty to be more forgiving to students who miss class in light of the ongoing H1N1 epidemic. Professors who typically require doctors’ notes to verify absences are being asked to look the other way.
UWO students concerned about violent campus arrest
Students at the University of Western Ontario in London have expressed their outrage after a video of a violent arrest by campus police on Oct. 14 was posted on YouTube.
The 90-second video shows Irnes Zeljkovic, 22, being held down by at least five campus and city police officers. While trying to handcuff the man, the officers repeatedly kneed, punched and struck the man with a baton more than 20 times.
