McGill suspends Choose Life group
McGill University’s anti-abortion group has had its rights as a club suspended by the university’s student council.
Student Society of McGill University (SSMU) voted 16-7 in favour of suspending the rights of the Choose Life club because of the club’s promotion methods, said SSMU president Ivan Neilson.
“The club was violating policies on equity oppression and they needed to be brought back to a more reasonable approach in their choice of displays,” Neilson said.
University of Waterloo radio station silenced
Students at the University of Waterloo recently voted against paying a student levy to keep the campus radio station, 100.3 Sound FM, on air.
This year, students paid $2.50 in their tuition fees to support the station.
Station president Steve Krysak said he thinks a major factor involved in the loss was that people were not informed.
“A lot of people didn’t know there was a vote,” Krysak said. “Less than 5,000 people voted in a school of 24,000, making 455 votes the deciding factor.”
