The first rule of fight club is you don’t talk about fight club, but that didn’t stop University of Manitoba staff from discovering one such club operating in the U of M’s Frank Kennedy Recreation Centre.

Earlier this month, five people, including one staff member, were suspended from the facility for a month, said Leah Janzen, U of M’s communications manager. 

The University of Alberta is in the process of deciding whether to outsource its e-mail to Google in a move that has some critics concerned about privacy.

“Google wants to take all of our faculty and students and turn them into lifelong Googlers,” said project organizer Jonathan Schaeffer said. “They want to make people fall in love with Google’s tools.”

This Winnipeg-based publication, which has been around for 90 years, was originally a monthly periodical for the Hudson’s Bay Company. It now has more than 50,000 subscribers.

The government of Nova Scotia has declared the province “Canada’s University Capital” in a new ad campaign that is drawing the ire of students complaining about the province’s high tuition fees.

“We are sending a strong message to students across Canada: Nova Scotia is the destination for education in this country,” said Nova Scotia’s transport minister, Bill Estabrooks, on behalf of Premier Darrell Dexter, at the campaign’s launch Jan. 11.
