CD Review: Fall Be Kind

Fall Be Kind EP
Animal Collective
Domino Records

4.5/5

Poppy and catchy are not synonymous, and Animal Collective proves this with their latest EP Fall Be Kind. The album, released digitally in late November, is full of hooks amidst its ambient haze and signature overlapping reverb-heavy vocals. This new record continues the band’s evolution, and is everything long-time fans could ask for.

It takes a few moments to figure out that what you are looking at is indeed a naked body. Whether a nipple or a navel, each image keeps you guessing as to what part of the form you are looking at.

Using the most successful photographs of a group of naked bodies, Fleshlight will run from Dec. 4-30 at La Petite Mort Gallery.

Bluessmyth ain’t singin’ the blues

Well when it comes to Bluessmyth, quite a lot.

“It’s like a blacksmith forging metals into art or creating different styles of music,” explained the band’s lead singer and lead guitarist Chris Yaholkoski.

But contrary to obvious interpretation of the name, Yaholkoski said he wants to be clear.

“We’re not genre specific. Obviously with the name Bluessmyth people think we’re a blues band, but we’re nowhere near a traditional blues band.”
