Rock ’n’ roll paradise
Since nowadays any band with a computer has the ability to promote itself globally, it becomes increasingly difficult to really stand out from the pool of obscurity that is the fate of many a group.
Toronto's White Cowbell Oklahoma's (WCO) solution is over-the-top live performances paired with a balls-to-the-wall attitude. And if you have no idea what that means, the band's lead singer will fill you in.
Protest the Hero musicians ‘go dark’
Protest the Hero is one of those bands that lives up to its hype.
The band’s debut Kezia was released when the members were in their teens, but the disc made them one of Canada's most promising metal acts with its combination of technical playing, intelligent lyrics and the versatile voice of singer Rody Walker.
Guitarist Tim Millar said he plans on continuing the technical playing, but is always striving for a musical balance of aggression and passivity.
Artsparks’ flame may go out after NGC layoffs
To bring in younger audiences, the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) partnered with Guerilla Magazine for the publication’s launch. The event, Artsparks featured live performances, silk-screening and guided tours March 25.
“It’s a group that’s reluctant to go on their own,” said David Monkhouse, the education co-ordinator of the NGC who has been organizing Artsparks since 2006. He said by designing events that are linked but not limited to the exhibitions it makes the gallery more inviting to 20- to 40-year-olds.

It’s no accident that Chris Luedecke evokes “spring fever” in the opening track of his latest album, My Hands Are On Fire and Other Love Songs.
There’s something about the banjo, his instrument of choice, which makes his music vibrant and organic much like that first whiff of earth after a long, snowy winter.
