Artists at Artscourt’s Modlab in downtown Ottawa are venturing into the realm of electronic 3D production.

Chayle Cook is a jewellery maker and craftswoman from Ottawa who was chosen this past fall by Artengine, a non-profit group concentrated on innovative advances in electronic art located at Artscourt, to experiment with a 3D printer.

With an unconventional name like Sandman Viper Command, it isn’t a stretch of the imagination to assume that the band’s corresponding debut album would be equally eccentric.

In today’s world, our lifestyles are very much integrated with science and technology. thelivingeffect, an exhibition currently on display at the Ottawa Art Gallery, conveys how art, science and technology interact, and how we perceive this “living effect.”

With a name like Pineapple and an album cover featuring a roaring grizzly bear composited in front of an outer space background, it may be hard to take this particular group’s debut effort seriously — but they seem to be okay with that.

The Vancouver-based band, lead by vocalist, lyricist and guitarist Cameron Dilworth, released the album without going through a record label.

Though Arctic exploration has a long and storied history, it is rare that we get to really know the hardships many Arctic explorers, then and now, face and how they dealt with these challenges.
