Alert the Medic brings their East Coast rock to Ottawa
Halifax-based rock band Alert the Medic arrived in Ottawa March 11 to perform at Zaphod’s. The band trekked from their Montreal show sleepless but excited to play their second show in Ottawa.
The four piece band is made up of guitarist and vocalist Ryan MacDonald, guitarist Troy Arsenault, bassist Matt Campbell and drummer Dale Wilson.
Alert the Medic said they consider themselves an anomaly for the East Coast music scene, where they say musicians are “pigeonholed to play traditional East Coast music.”
Vagina Monologues celebrate female sexuality on stage
Everybody was talking about vaginas this weekend.
A very talented all-female cast performed Carleton’s annual production of The Vagina Monologues to a packed audience at Porter Hall March 11.
The Vagina Monologues was written by Eve Ensler in 1996 and is based on hundred of interviews with women about their vaginas. The monologues have been translated in 48 languages and have been performed in over 140 countries, according to Ensler’s online biography.
Gaga brings glamour and gore to Scotiabank Place
Mother monster visited her little Ottawa monsters on March 6 in a spectacle of brilliant lights, wild costumes, changing sets and dance music known as Lady Gaga’s Monster Ball tour.
With a message of being an individual and fearlessly embracing one’s true self, Lady Gaga posed, danced and writhed her way around the stage while playing her top hits and a few songs showcasing her vocal talent for the packed Scotiabank Place arena.
Genie Awards come to Ottawa
There’s a feeling of expectancy and excitement in Ottawa this week, as the 31st Genie Awards come to town.
Lucy van Oldenbarneveld, host of CBC News Ottawa, said the Genie Awards offer Canadians the chance to celebrate Canadian film.
“It’s been a tremendous point of pride,” said Ottawa Mayor Jim Watson when introducing the awards.
The event, housed in the National Arts Centre, will be hosted by Canadian film star William Shatner, a recent recipient of the Governor General’s Award.
