Perth play supports sexual assault centre

The Carleton Coalition for a Sexual Assault Centre has found a new ally after five years of fighting for a place on campus.

The Classic Theatre Festival performed John Van Druten’s romantic comedy, “Bell, Book, and Candle” to raise funds and awareness for the coalition, July 27 at the Mason Theatre in Perth, Ont.

Julie Lalonde, coordinator of the coalition, said she founded the of the sexual assault support line.

Master Chief’s ballet

Greg Oh said playing NHL ‘94 and watching Halo YouTube videos inspired him to create a classical ballet.

“There would be a crowd of people watching [a video game] and the act of watching was just as exciting, if not more exciting, than watching a game of hockey on TV,” Oh said in a phone interview from Toronto.

Mother Mother returns

Among current music out there, Mother Mother prefers not to be categorized as indie, nu-folk or twee-pop. Instead, they want their music to take them on the journey organically, said frontman Ryan Guldemond before his set at Bluesfest July 16.

Ivy Deavy has adopted a new name — Poison Poisson, after diving into the world of burlesque.
 
Deavy, 24, said she made a spontaneous decision and joined the Bourbon and Spice Burlesque troupe in April with no official dance background.

She said everything she has learned in the past two months is thanks to the founder of the troupe, who dances under the stage name Kerosene MisFortune.
