Animating hip-hop culture
A handful of animation and hip-hop fans watched the culture-bending animation Afro Samurai at the Museum of Civilization Sept. 24 for the Ottawa International Animation Festival.

Growing In/Words as a writer
Hushed voices filled the small, upstairs room of the Carleton Tavern as everyone waited in anticipation before Jesslyn Delia Smith took the stage. The Carleton graduate opened the night with her strong, intimate poetry for the Small Press Action Network-Ottawa (SPAN-O)’s readings and book launch Sept. 23.
Everyone listened intently and quietly sipped their drinks as Smith, standing at the front of the small room, read some of her most recent work, including “Over.”
Carleton artists kick off hoedown
Carleton graduates Renée Yoxon and Lynne Hanson kicked off the opening weekend of the O-Town Hoedown music festival Sept. 24-25.
Yoxon, who earned a physics degree at Carleton, performed Sept. 24 at Rainbow Bistro.
Yoxon has played at the Ottawa Jazz Festival, the 1000 Islands Jazz Festival and other big venues. However, she said she enjoyed playing tunes with a country vibe during the hoedown.
