A musical path to filmmaking
Ottawa welcomed back local musician and director Adam Traynor for the Ottawa premiere of his first feature length film, Ivory Tower, Sept. 28 at the ByTowne Cinema.
The film, written by Traynor along with musician Chilly Gonzales and Céline Sciamma, is based on two brothers and their rivalries in love and chess.
Collaborating with musicians has always been a large part of 36-year-old Traynor’s life. He said it was music that led him to filmmaking in the first place.

“God does not change the condition of a people until they change what is inside themselves.”
This Qur’an verse was the central idea behind Irshad Manji’s Allah, Liberty & Love, and the main point of discussion at Manji’s appearance for the Ottawa International Writers Festival at the Mayfair Theatre Sept. 21.
Sitting in Arc the Hotel’s humming lounge, Manji is easily the most animated person in the room. She said the verse is a call to action to transform attitudes and behaviours.
