Carleton Academic Student Government (CASG) released the 2020 election results today.

This year’s election took place from March 24 to 25 online due to COVID-19 social distancing measures—becoming the first online election ever for the student government.

74 students were invited to vote with 23 responding—resulting in a 31 per cent response rate.

Matthew Gagne, currently the government’s vice-president (operations), ran uncontested for the president position—winning with all 23 votes cast in favour.

Vanessa Buecking, who also ran uncontested, won the vice-president (operations) position with 20 votes in favour, two opposed, and one in abstention.

Two candidates vied for the vice-president (academic) position, with Pierce Burch ultimately winning with 11 votes. Afreen Ahmad was close behind with nine votes. Two voters abstained with only one vote cast against both candidates.

The new co-ordinators for the 2020-21 academic year will be Olivia Hobbs for the faculty of arts and social sciences as well as Jordan Vecchio for the faculty of public affairs.

Three co-ordinator positions, for the faculties of business, science, as well as engineering and design, remain vacant for the upcoming term.
