The Carleton Ravens women’s soccer team picked up three points on the road Sept. 17-18, beating Laurentian University and tying Nipissing University.
After shutting out the Laurentian Lady Vees 1-0 Sept. 17, the Ravens were held to a 1-1 tie Sept. 18 against the Nipissing Lakers.
We just weren’t as hungry for the ball as our game [Sept. 17], rookie striker Adrianna Ruggiero said following the draw against the Lakers. Our passing was off, and compared to Nipissing we weren’t fighting to maintain possession she said. We scored right at the end of the first half, but we just couldn’t get our plays going which was a disappointment, Ruggiero added.
Carleton’s Nicole Filipow scored in the 45th minute of the game, but as the second half began, the Lakers equalized with a corner kick by Kim Tait.
The draw came as a disappointment after the team’s late win against Laurentian, with a goal in the 80th minute from Andrea Way.
“We knew that Laurentian was the harder team to beat so we were determined,” third-year goalie Rachel Bedek said. We were hungry for the goal, especially in the second half, so we pushed hard and got the result we wanted.
But the Ravens didn’t come to the field with the same determination the next day, Bedek said.
We didn’t go after the ball, we weren’t as organized and so it got pretty hectic.
The Ravens will face both schools again on their home field in a double header Sept. 24-25, and will have to work hard as a team to redeem themselves, Bedek said.
We need to start working together as a team, and treating every game as if it’s our last. We want to win against both of these teams to make up for [our the last] game, Bedek said.
