The name of Carleton’s River Building was changed to Richcraft Hall on Nov. 1, after a donation to the school of $3 million from the owners of Richcraft Homes, a local real estate company.

The lecture theatre on the second floor of the building has also been renamed the Singhal Family Theatre, after the owners of the company, Kris and Manju Singhal, and their daughters Monica and Angela, according to an article from Carleton Newsroom.

Carleton president Roseann Runte said it was always the plan to change the name of the former River Building.

“We always intended to name the building after somebody who would make a donation to the university . . . we just called it River Building while we were waiting to get a donor,” she said.

She said the Canal Building is also a placeholder name, until a donor is found to name the building after.

Runte said the $3 million from the Singhal family will go towards the university’s general endowment fund, which is used for student awards, scholarships, and other projects that the university has.

Kris Singhal is a Carleton alum who received his accounting credentials 40 years ago from the university, according to Runte.
