Carleton students will have access to all of Ontario’s university library databases at their fingertips.
The University of Toronto has released a report on behalf of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) stating it plans to share its library networks with nine other universities, including Carleton and the University of Ottawa.
Amidst a $1.2-million funding increase from the Productivity and Innovation Fund, the OCUL has introduced an all-purpose, research apparatus called the Ontario Digital Library Research Cloud (ODLRC).
The cloud will give Ontario university students access to all available materials from each Ontario university library, all neatly packed into one digital database.
Larry Alford, the University of Toronto’s chief librarian, said in university newsletter that this cloud service allows university researchers to access more information than they could on their own.
“Researchers are increasingly interested in working with large bodies of digital content to explore long-term societal, cultural, and economic trends,” Alford said.
