Jonathan Hauck was a Bamboozler in high school, playing bass guitar in his high school band. He also played piano, electric guitar and French horn. The talented musician was part of the Canterbury high school music program.

He also played little league baseball, “pretty much since he was knee-high,” his father said.

But above everything, “the love of his non-school life was cars and everything cars,” his father Ron Hauck said.
“Too bad they don’t have a school class for cars.”

The third-year history student died tragically March 18, due to unknown causes, although his heart has been sent to the heart institute for further assessment, according to his father.

Ron said Jonathan has a class from 2:30 to 5:30 and that Jonathan had gone to get food on his break when he collapsed.

Ron works at Carleton in Computing and Communication Services. He said he and his daughter, who also works at Carleton, were on their way home when they got a phone call to go to the Civic campus of the Ottawa General Hospital.

The incident took place in Leo’s Lounge, and Andrew Harte, president of the Carleton Student Engineer Society, said engineers trained in first aid were on the scene to take control of the situation until Carleton University Student Emergency Response Team (CUSERT) and campus safety could arrive a few minutes later.

“The superb training of many engineers in first aid and emergency response, from extra curricular and Engfrosh, definitely aided in the immediate response taken,” Harte said.

Flags were at half-staff March 19 in honour of Jonathan.

The funeral was held March 24 at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, in Stittsville.
