The Carleton University Academic Staff Association (CUASA) and the university have ratified a new collective agreement.

The news comes after the two sides reached a tentative deal on April 27, avoiding a potential strike during the summer academic term. CUASA had been in collective bargaining with the university since early October.

CUASA president Dominique Marshall and Carleton provost L. Pauline Rankin released a joint statement on May 16 announcing the agreement’s ratification.

The union, representing Carleton’s full-time faculty and librarians, was “pleased” to reach an agreement, CUASA said, adding the plan is retroactive to May 1, 2024 and will last until the end of April 2027.

Voting on whether or not to ratify the new deal took place on May 15 following two union town halls.

The union previously said its main concerns were related to workload, salary and benefits.

CUASA had stated that details of the agreement will be published after the ratification.
