The 2021 Carleton University Students Association (CUSA) election has seen an increase in candidates running for both executive and councillor positions.

27 candidates are currently running for an executive position, with all six of the executive positions having at least three candidates vying for the job. The vice-president (community engagement) position is seeing the most competitions with six candidates.

This year’s election has also seen a slight rise in the number of slates compared to last year with two slates currently in the race. More than half of the candidates—15 out of 27—are running independently.

The candidacy for CUSA councillor positions has also seen a significant increase from last year’s 16 candidates, with 54 candidates now running.

Every faculty councillor seat has filled or surpassed the number of available candidate positions. However, there is currently no candidate running for the Special Student councillor position.

Voting for the CUSA election will take place on Feb. 3 and Feb. 4 via Carleton emails.
