Carleton University announced in an online release long-time men’s basketball coach Dave Smart has accepted a new role as the program’s director of basketball operations.

Smart will be developing both the men’s and women’s basketball programs and provide support to the coaching staff of both teams in this new role.

Current Ravens women’s basketball coach Taffe Charles will take over for Smart as the head coach of the men’s basketball program for the following season.

As the men’s basketball head coach, Smart has led the team through 14 national championship wins, including this past season.

“It’s been a great run,” Smart said. “Coaching is my second love, my first being my wife and children. I am very thankful to the university and I am looking forward to my new role. This gives me an opportunity to stay involved in basketball while having more time to spend with my family.”

Carleton is now on a nationwide search for a new women’s basketball coach.

More to follow soon.
