Students, faculty and staff were cut off from access to internet-based services after severe outages Thursday morning.
The IT department is “currently working on a Storage Area Network (SAN) issue that has caused degraded performance and intermittent outages for multiple services,” the university said in a statement issued around 7 a.m.
Most major services were restored by 7:30 p.m., including email, Carleton Central and CULearn, according to an update from the university.
Asked if there’s a time estimate for complete restoration, the IT department said, “Unfortunately, we do not have that at this time.”
Online courses, including class-streaming services via CUOL, were unavailable throughout Thursday.
Several students submitting assignments were worried the outage might affect their grades.
Some instructors reached out to students asking them not to worry, but were angered by the lack of information surrounding time estimates for how long to provide students amnesty.
The university later asked professors to provide accommodations where possible around 2 p.m.
Among other disrupted services included academic audits, portfolio services, and Campus Card activation, deactivation, deposits, and payments.
