The Charlatan (TC): How did you get your start in nordic skiing?

Steffan Lloyd (SL): I started skiing when I was very young. My dad brought me into it because he did it as well. Since then I've just kept skiing with the club and my friends.

TC: How much training do you put in regularly? How much did it take to get where you are now?

SL: This year, I'm training 750 hours, which means about three hours a day in the summer, and a bit less in the winter. Every year, I train a little more than last year to build on my previous fitness.

TC: What do you attribute your success to?

SL: There is definitely a lot of hard work that went into it, but it would be impossible without support from my club, school, and especially my parents.

TC: What do you hope to do with skiing once you've graduated?

SL: I'm hoping to be able to compete in the Winter Olympics in 2014 . . . we'll see if I can qualify. I'd love to be able to live the lifestyle of a national team skier for a while, race the world cup circuit and [compete] in the Olympics. I'll be doing what I can to get there.
