TC: How did you get your start playing soccer?
Rachel Bedek (RB): I started when I was in grade seven – so I think that’s around 12 years old or so – on a house league team. I signed up with one of my friends. From there, I went on to play [competitive] soccer, and from there my career just took off. Each year, we got better.
TC: How much training do you put in regularly?
RB: Obviously, every day we have to be out on the pitch in-season, but once we’re out of the season we still have to keep up doing fitness, weights, so it’s a daily thing that you have to concentrate on.
TC: What do you attribute your success to?
RB: I would say my parents helped push me through a lot of tough times where I thought I should just give up at certain points. They’ve definitely had a huge impact on who I am and the level I was able to reach. They’ve always supported me.
TC: Where do you hope to take the sport post-graduation?
RB: I guess we’ll see how things pan out. It’s not something I want to think about, the end of my soccer career . . . especially at this level. Hopefully, I’ll figure something out where I’m still able to play competitively, and not just sign up for a premier situation or some recruit league.
