Three sexual assaults were reported near the University of Windsor, prompting police to issue a warning to all locals, specifically students. Lori Lewis, the Manager of News Services at the university, commented on the university’s action plan.
“Windsor has a number of initiatives in place to help students stay safe,” Lewis said. “Campus police sergeant Chris Zelezney did a number of media interviews on Friday, in which he reiterated safety messages both for our students and members of the public who live in the area.”
While the Windsor Police were unable to comment, a statement issued asked anyone with information to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
According to the university’s news statement, Windsor police and campus police are working together on several investigations, including a break-and-enter which resulted in an assault on Sept. 28, a woman who was approached and hugged by a man at a bus stop on the same day, and another hugging incident that included unwelcome kissing after approaching a victim in a bus shelter Sept. 30.
The university and police department said a suspect is currently in hospital for psychiatric assessment after the third incident took place.
