Alex was born and raised in what she refers to as “one of the most beautiful countries in the world”—Venezuela—and is now pursuing her postsecondary education in “one of the most welcoming and diverse countries in the world,” Canada.

From a very young age, Alex developed a strong sense of social responsibility and a desire to do more than simply discuss social change—she wanted to create it. Alex got involved in various humanitarian organizations in Venezuela including FUNDANA (Friends of the Child in Need of Protection Foundation) and Un Mundo Sin Mordaza, a foundation dedicated to promoting freedom of speech and human rights. Alex also organized support groups for the Missionaries of Charity—an organization dedicated to helping the hungry and homeless—and organized collections of clothing and Christmas presents for the children of the orphanage Fundación Esperanza.

It was not long before Alex turned her experience with social action into lobbying for social change. She was a member of the Social Development Team for El Hatillo and the Information Commission of “Universidad Simon Bolivar,” a student movement for the defense of human rights and democracy.

In Canada, Alex has strived to continue her humanitarian pursuit. She is a volunteer instructor for “Waves Ottawa,” an organization that offers affordable swimming lessons for children with disabilities, and an active member and VP (finance) of the Humanitarian Organization of Latin American Students (HOLAS) at Carleton.

Serving as VP (finance) for HOLAS has been an enriching experience for Alex. Her experience managing finances and organizing events to fund sustainable development projects in Latin America, has inspired her to take her student leadership to the next step, as your vice-president (student issues).

Alex is no stranger to the Carleton community. She is currently studying Biomedical and Mechanical Engineering, involved in Model United Nations (MUN) (this was back home) and regularly plays Intramurals Soccer at Carleton Athletics.

For Alex, her Carleton is one that is inclusive, creative, and service oriented. She wants to spearhead campaigns that do more than discuss social change—they work to create it, she wants to build services that do more than tackle high stress levels—they provide support.

On January 27th and 28th vote Alex Noguera for vice-president (student issues) and her team, Your Carleton!
