Thanks for your coverage of the withholding of student fees by Carleton University.

Like all students, I received a ‘no-reply’ email from Carleton that stated, “The university asks only for assurance — in the form of audited statements — that the fees collected from students are being used for the purposes for which they are collected.” The email insists that access to the financial statements is the only issue preventing Carleton University Students’ Association (CUSA) and the Graduate Students’ Association (GSA) from getting the fees that are owed to them.

I noticed that CUSA had their audited statements in the Charlatan last week, and it was stated in the Charlatan that the GSA would include theirs in the next issue. Given this, why is the university administration still withholding the student fees?

Carleton’s administration has a lot to answer for. They claim that student fees will be released once the audited statements are available but then refuse to release the fees after the publication of the statements.

It is becoming increasingly difficult to trust an institution that doesn’t seem willing to keep its promises.
