Are you like me and you wish that sometimes you could interact with the characters from one of your favourite films? Well, if you’re a fan of the 1975 cult classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show, you’re in luck!

Every month, for a night or two, the Mayfair theatre hosts screenings of the film along with the Absent Friends Shadow Cast acting alongside the film, giving fans the chance to yell and dance along with the characters as they go through Brad and Janet’s journey.

The event has gained a huge following, becoming the most attended Rocky Horror screening in Canada and the third largest in North America. Fans can expect a lot of energy and thrills from the cast, ensuring that massive Rocky Horror fans and first-timers (“Rocky Horror” virgins) alike will have a great night. The humour from the cast adds new layers to the film as well, as they point out flaws within the film or add more to the lines within the film that brings the viewing to another level.

What I enjoy most about attending the screenings is getting to see the chance to see other fans of the film. Everyone in that room is there for Rocky; the cast, the superfans, the first-timers, the fans who attend for tradition and the fans who attend for nostalgia..

You enjoy the film and get a new experience out of it that you often don’t get with other films. The themes of expression of being and embracing who you are connect with various people on different scales, which is why I think Rocky Horror is timeless.

Rocky Horror doesn’t care who you are, as long as you’re there for a good time, which draws a lot of fans into it and why they still keep coming month after month. So, the next time you have a Saturday night off and no plans, take a trip to the Mayfair and give yourself over to absolute pleasure. Stay freaky, Carleton.
