Taffe Charles
Women’s basketball
In his 10th season as the Carleton Ravens women’s basketball head coach, Charles led the program to a record-setting finish.
Following an 18-1 regular season finish, the Ravens cruised through the Ontario University Athletics (OUA) playoffs and earned their first Critelli Cup.
After earning that top seed at the U SPORTS women’s basketball Final 8 in Victoria, B.C., the Ravens briefly stumbled with a semifinal loss to the McGill Martlets, but bounced back with a win in the bronze medal game over the Queen’s Gaels.
Dave Smart
Men’s basketball
Following an undefeated regular season, Smart and the Ravens were upset in the OUA Final against the Ryerson Rams. But Carleton was able to redeem itself, and defeated the Rams on the national stage in the U SPORTS Final.
Smart also added his eighth Stuart W. Aberdeen Memorial trophy in recognition of being the U SPORTS coach of the year.
Marty Johnston
Men’s hockey
Though the Ravens weren’t able to reach the U SPORTS University Cup as they did a year ago, Johnston was able to guide the team to the playoffs following a rocky start to the first half of the season. They finished the season in fourth place in the OUA East with a 16-9-3 record.
In the playoffs, the Ravens fell in the first round to the Université de Québec à Trois-Rivières Patriotes, a team that has eliminated them in the playoffs in six of the last seven seasons.
Steve Sumarah
Football
In his fourth season as head coach of the Ravens football team, Sumarah led Carleton to their best season since the program returned to Carleton.
This past year, the team finished fourth in the OUA with a record of 6-2.
Following their first playoff win at home in 30 years, the Ravens made it to the OUA semifinals, before falling to the Western Mustangs.
Patrick Thompson
Women’s rugby
In his first season as head coach of the Carleton Ravens women’s rugby team, Thompson led the team to a 3-3-1 record, their best since 2012.
Thompson joined the team ahead of their inaugural season as an assistant coach, before being promoted to head coach during this past offseason.
The season started strong for the Ravens with three consecutive wins, which surpassed their win total from the previous season, but three consectutive losses and a tie resulted in them missing the playoffs.
