The Carleton Ravens women’s hockey team has announced this first recruit for the 2017/18 season.
Cassey Corriveau, a 19-year-old defenceman that plays for the Patriotes du Collège d’enseignement général et professionnel (CÉGEP) de St-Laurent, will join the Ravens line-up in the fall.
“She is going to bring depth to our hockey team,” said Ravens head coach Pierre Alain. “She is making a very good first pass as a [defenceman] so she will help our team on breakouts for sure.
“Also she has a rocket shot, she has a very heavy, and on-net shot,” he said.
Through 19 games with the Patriotes this season, Corriveau has scored a goal, and added three assists.
Alain said he initially believed Corriveau planned to return for another year of CÉGEP, but has instead decided to make the jump to university.
Along with Corriveau, Alain said he has commitments from two other players, and plans to make their announcements soon.
Since joining the Ravens ahead of the 2014/15 season, Alain has brought many new recruits to Carleton. 10 players have made their debut with the team this year, while only four members of the team have played more than two seasons with Carleton.
Alain said he expects to ice an older and more experienced team next season.
We’re going to bring five to seven new players, so the class will be smaller,” he said. “We’re going to be older and the goal is always to make the playoffs and win nationals.”
